To protect and to defend The United States Constitution and The Bill Of Rights is vital for the survival of our great nation. This page specifically defends the Second Amendment. Without the constitutional right of the individual citizens of the United States of America to arm themselves, it would then be easier to strip the rest of the rights of her citizens.

Quotes from the Founders During the Ratification Period of the Constitution

[The Constitution preserves] the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation...(where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.
---James Madison,The Federalist Papers, No. 46.

To suppose arms in the hands of citizens, to be used at individual discretion, except in private self-defense, or by partial orders of towns, countries or districts of a state, is to demolish every constitution, and lay the laws prostrate, so that liberty can be enjoyed by no man; it is a dissolution of the government. The fundamental law of the militia is, that it be created, directed and commanded by the laws, and ever for the support of the laws.
---John Adams, A Defence of the Constitutions of the United States 475 (1787-1788)

Quotes from Thomas Jefferson

A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.
--- Thomas Jefferson to Peter Carr, 1785. The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, (Memorial Edition) Lipscomb and Bergh, editors.

One loves to possess arms, though they hope never to have occasion for them.
--- Thomas Jefferson to George Washington, 1796. The Writings of Thomas Jefferson, (Memorial Edition) Lipscomb and Bergh, editors.

We established however some, although not all its [self-government] important principles . The constitutions of most of our States assert, that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves, in all cases to which they think themselves competent, (as in electing their functionaries executive and legislative, and deciding by a jury of themselves, in all judiciary cases in which any fact is involved,) or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed;
---Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824. Memorial Edition 16:45, Lipscomb and Bergh, editors.

No freeman shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
---Thomas Jefferson: Draft Virginia Constitution, 1776.

Quick Facts

There are actually 80,000,000 lawful gun owners in the US.

Accidental deaths in the U.S.:

  • Motor vehicles: 47,000
  • Falls: 13,000
  • Poisoning: 7,000
  • Drowning: 5,000
  • Fire-related: 4,000
  • Suffocation: 4,000
  • Firearms: 2,000

It's 23.5 times more dangerous to use a car than to handle a gun.

Every year 1,200,000 people die from vehicule accident worldwide while 160,000 people are killed by firearms including during wars and other unrests.

Washington DC was for several years the city with the toughest gun-control laws in the US where a handgun ban was enacted, thus violating the Second Amendment of the US Constitution. During the same period, Washington DC "enjoyed" the title of the US city with the most gun-related violence and murders. Gun-control does not prevent gun-related crimes. It only makes the criminals job easier.

We hear the argument of the anti-Second Amendment crowd that the Second Amendment specifically refers to a right of a state regulated militia, or otherwise a regular army, to keep and bear arms, and not the right of a individual citizen or person.

The State Constitution of each State of the Union was modeled from the United States Constitution and a lot of similar language can be found in each State Constitution. Regarding the right to keep and bear arms, some constitutions refer to the "people" while others refer to "a citizen", "an individual" or "a person", hence showing that the intent of this right was to be granted to the individual citizen and not to a militia.

Furthermore, the articles and sections where the right to keep and bear arms are located refer to all the rights of the individual citizens granted by these documents.

I invite you to read the individual citizen rights of all the US and States Constitutions below and judge for yourself. Also, here's a table showing which states refer to the people and which ones refer to the individual, citizen or person. 16 (including the US Constitution) refer to the "people", 30 to individuals and 5 have no mention of this right.
