ACTOR STUDIOActor Studio is a program that converts your 3D models to Genesis3D actors. You will need a 3D modeling program to create your actors and their motions. You can use one of the following 3D modeling software to create your models or any other programs that can generate 3DS files (with bone & physic system) or NFO and KEY files:
Studio Max & Character Studio (3DS Max 2.5 and 3.0 are supported)
- TrueSpace (Caligari Software) and TrueGene (Klaus Zerbe converter. see Link page)
- Milkshape3D (see Link page)
- Animation Master (see Link page)
When you load Actor Studio (ASTUDIO.EXE) the screen should look like this:
In the File menu, select the "New" option in order to create a new project.

Then, click on the tab "Target".
WARNING: Do not check the "Use Project Directory" radio box.
edit box "Output file:", enter the actor file name with its ACT extension
This name can be different than the project name. Then, click on the "Body" tab.
on the "Browse" button in order to locate either the MAX file of the model
that you created with 3D Studio Max, or the NFO file that was generated
with 3D Studio Max or coming from another modeling software that supports
this file format.
In the first case, check the radio box "3DS Max (.max)". When you will build your actor, it will open 3D Studio Max that will automatically start the process of generating the NFO and KEY files needed and will build the actor.
second case, check the radio box "Export (.nfo)".
Now, click on the "Motions" tab.
the "Motion" tab, click on the "Add" button and enter the name of the first
motion you want to add.
The name you choose is important. It will be used in your application project to load this motion.
Click on the "Browse" button. Select either the MAX file corresponding to the motion you created in 3D Studio Max or the KEY file you already exported from 3D Studio Max or the one coming from another modeling software that can support this file format.
In the first case, check the radio box "3D Studio Max (.max)". When you will build your actor, it will open 3D Studio Max that will automatically start the process of generating the NFO and KEY files needed and will build the actor.
second case, check the radio box "Exported Key (.key)".
Repeat this process until you imported all the motions for your actor.
Then, click on the "Paths" tab.
In the edit box "Materials directory:" enter the path and the name of the BMP texture file that you used inside 3D Studio Max to skin your model. Do not modify or delete anything in the field "Temp files directory:" that is used for the temporary files Actor Studio generates during the building process neither try to delete manually the files in this directory.
If you chose to import MAX files for the Body and the Motions, click on the "Settings" tab and enter the path to your 3D Studio Max software if different than the default one.
click on the "Build" button to create your actor. This will generate the
ACT file that you will use in your Genesis3D project.
